Does the Isle of Man have VAT?

No. The Isle of Man does not charge VAT, capital gains tax or inheritance tax. Income tax is a flat 10% on the first £6,500 and 20% above that (for individuals). The 0% corporate tax rate for most businesses is a key draw for companies.

Is the Isle of Man part of the UK?

No. The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency. It has its own parliament (Tynwald — the world's oldest continuous parliament), its own laws, tax system and immigration rules. The UK Government is responsible for defence and foreign affairs.

Do I need a work permit to work on the Isle of Man?

If you are a British or Irish citizen, you have the right to live and work on the IoM without a permit. EU/EEA citizens and others generally need a work permit, which your employer must apply for. Check the Immigration page for details.

How do I register to vote on the Isle of Man?

You can register to vote if you are 16+ and resident on the island. Contact the Electoral Office or visit gov.im to download the registration form. The IoM was one of the first places in the world to give women the vote (1881).
