Frequently Asked Questions
Does 999 work on the Isle of Man?
Yes. Dial 999 for Police, Fire, Ambulance or Coastguard — exactly as in the UK. 112 also works for emergencies.
Is there an NHS on the Isle of Man?
Not exactly. The IoM has its own health service, Manx Care, which provides NHS-equivalent services. It's funded separately from the UK NHS. If you're a UK visitor, reciprocal healthcare agreements mean you'll be treated in an emergency — but travel insurance is still recommended.
Where is the nearest hospital?
Nobles Hospital in Douglas is the island's only hospital with A&E. If you're in the north, Ramsey Cottage Hospital handles minor injuries during office hours. Serious cases always go to Nobles.
